TOLERA NIGHT VISION:HOMECOMING THEME

Saturday, January 30th, 2016

Afternoon Style Merchants. Continuing prevailing flower week theme, must petition your attention to pal Christos Tolera’s forthcoming exhibition entitled “Homecoming”. Tolera is an Actor, Painter & Style Monger extraordinaire (click).  I’ll let Christos tell it, as he wrote some good words explaining the whole thing, see right below. The gist is, he’s presenting a collection of beautiful dark pictures of flowers that he takes at night, when out & about, lurking & researching. I think they’re gorgeous images, and I wish to shout out his show next week: Hail stealth flower homage artiste. People, come visit mans show.

Flowers everywhere this week, partic round Lavinia Villa: Feels like a funeral at times. Maybe it is, a sort of one

Christos is from the Hackney manor and his perspective on area is also double interesting. His perspective is interesting full stop. Tolera’s Instagram has examples of this work to, but note, its also a trifle racy in places (click).

DEAD-HEADING

Thursday, January 28th, 2016

Morning Style Mongers. Told you there was a flower theme this week, right? Dead-Heading. Yeah? Anyone? Never mind, seen this? Deadpool. Don’t watch superhero films ever, but this isn’t one. It’s actually funny & dark by the look of the trailer. My boy Ed Skrein is the baddy, Ajax, attempting to trifle with that Ryan Reynolds throughout. G’wan the British/London guy.

Been working on style looks all week for the press days/screenings in London tomorrow and New York next week. For today in London Skrein is gonna be busting this Alexander McQueen jacquard woven bomber with velvet Sam Brown holster detail. Sinister street style, non?

Don’t know if can see the fabric in this shot, but is really special. Subtle, chic, unusual, and cool. Note. the cuffs have thumb holes, and fold back, right, and are not compulsory. Also, Black Air Max 90s (click) and later Louboutin grey leather or suede Chelsea boots. Loub’ image to come.

Skrein Road Flex: Black Nike Air Max 90s.

Louboutin boots, but more grey. More grey.

Add black Burbs jeans, film actors own, charcoal grey melange knit by our pals John Smedley and we’re there. He looks like a suave cat burglar, I think. More style bits when I get ’em, but still not finalised Ed’s kettle so better sign off and get fizzing, Roger?

Stubbs out.

PS. Below is not a work in progress, this just happened to be the team look when showed up for a fitting at Ed’s bits: Marl joggers, check. White wife beater, check. After that we diverge a little on the visuals. I might be receding, but Ed’s actually wearing a piece in this shot. Can you spot it? Joe Mills to do us both a hair-favour later, right Joseph: How the finger? Stopped bleeding yet? #WhiteGoodsError

Morning Style Mongers. Gonna be working strong floral theme this week. Flowers here are Strelitzia, or Birds of Paradise. Jug was Christmas present from a beloved one, now flown. Flowers are from Columbia Road, obvs, and blue is ‘Hague’ and very blue. Its gonna be a cold and very blue February too, kind of. Still, sun god Ra is in effect, thankfully.

Gonna pay homage to the water and set things right again; At das Lido, naturally. Don’t woz, things gonna brighten up, just had to lay this truth down. Christos Tolera’s done some lovely flower based work, and he’s got an exhibition on 4th February in Stokey. Its gonna be good. Thats coming later this week. And some style. Really. Hold tight.

Stubbs out.

PS. I just had to change the song. Had to stop fucking about. Had to be Joni, Blue, in the end. Hits the mark. Always Joni..

Afternoon Style Mongers. For me zi fashions are over, jah? As Paris dawdles on, am double glad to be yarded again in London. Missed the place. Missed the people. People. Some people missing. Some sadness, but that is life, yeah? That is what we sign up for, right? Tell ya what, being sad in obscene luxury is totes vile. Much better at home. Bring it on home. Stick on Kurt Vile and then look at some Cerruti AW16, right?

Gonna write more about the Cerruti 1881 collection, but right now the suns out and gonna pay homage to the market deities, cheese, fish, meat. Later the flower gods.

33-cerruti-1881

I will say J.B. held back and let Cerruti be what is should be. Draped, elegant, modern and about modern luxe fabric. Its metropolitan and not retro. He hid well and let the house&mill  function. Bravo.

54-cerruti-1881

Loved this take on shearling. Proper modern, easy luxe.

40-cerruti-1881

As I say, Ra is in full effect, so off out. Always brings out the hippy in me. Dig Hawkwind bredrins and be free.

Stubbs out, not down.

Told ya was gonna be good. Was good.

PARIS: A FIST FULL OF EUROS/CERRUTI DAWN

Friday, January 22nd, 2016

Morning Style Merchants. In Paris now, staying in most lavish hotel suite I’ve ever stepped snaffled-foot in. And its shoes that are footing the bill, thank you J.M.Weston, in honour of their Yves Klein Blue Moccasin  (or Penny Loafer), which got launched last night. It seems the Y.K. foundation gave Michele Perry, Creative Director, their blessing and a 5L can of their finest blue paint and said off you go Mich’. In Parisian though, of course. Never seen a bluer suede shoe in my career. Congratulations all round

Klein’d of Blue- J.M.Weston’s Yves Klein Mocasins.

Now writing in bed, in totes-lap of luxe in said Raffles Hotel but with lap-top glued to fingers, as pour. The Royal Monceau on Avenue Roche is off the hook-posh, but am too under-le-cosh/dashing about and a trifle too fatigued to eat more than three Oreos last night. Typical. Hope to file some lyrics and hit das spa to relax via my direct inception mirrored lift that comes with room. The khazi/space-bidet is advanced beyond anything I’ve ever clocked/ponied on. Aside from specifying how many litres of flush one wants, and vibrating at suitable frequencies  it has a surface to arsehole tracking system for the rinse off. You don’t believe me, but its true. Too, too flush.

Nino Cerruti, couturier italien. 1970. LIP-31733-004

Whoa, whoa, whoa Nino: Cerruti, back in the day.

Douches aside men, the most important moment of Paris week is ’bout to happen. No messing. Jason Basmajian, also of Creative Officer of Gieve&Hawkes and tings, is ’bout to debut his first full Cerruti collection. Its a major deal. Cerruti is a proper menswear sleeping giant, not been what is should since early 1980s, and J.B. is one of the hottest thinker/mover/executers in recent serious menswear history. It has a significant history, and its ethos is super right for right now. Its gonna big. Its gonna critical. Trust man.

Stubbs out/in bed.

 Les sad little Selfie.

PS. Been wanting a Hermes Poncho for years. Heading there later in name of luxe-research. As Paris fashion week crawls onwards (5 days of it ffs) to me it feels like this is the time to acquire le Poncho.

A few tassels more.
