NEW OLD RADS

Friday, January 31st, 2014

Morning Style Sputniks. I guess you know, you guess am just a radical. Or was it radiator? Did seem obvious at some point, no? So am looking at reclaimed rads, right, and am planning to get them done in that sort of pewter/chrome silvered/black finish. Not exactly radical thinking but cant seem to help myself. One, two, one two three.

Ying Yang Rads.

Like these fin-ish guys, but remember some I saw off Essex Road at The Architectural Forum (clicky) that were even more finny. More exagerated. Or did I slightly enhance the memory. Enhanced memories eh. Who knows?

As an interlude while I talk Rads talk, remember The New Radicals? One good song and this was it. You Get What You Give. Remember It’s On? Course you do/dont. Seminalental Ninties pill club, right. Top Tunes, Shite Mixing (click) was da mantra. I proposed this as an Its On song and it became one. Aks The Balearic Russian (click). He’ll back man up. We had the dreamers disease back then. This song is actually giving me goose bumps. Only thing is, they’re on my varicose veins. Tricky.

His clothes were awful, American style, but the song was good. Should have kept the fishing hat on bredrin’. “Fashion shows with Beck and Hanson, Courtney Love and Marlyn Manson”. Quite.

Anyway, back to the new old rads,  theres also the four poster guys of course. Hmm. Got my tape out last night. Measured my rooms. Both of them. Everything. What next?

Old Radicals

Well, am gonna go and see a man named Gustav on the Valentine Estate now, so if you dont hear from me again, send radiators. Send New Radicals. Send Rodigan? Did some one mention Rodigan? More, of, that, later. Laters.

PS. I’ve still got the music in me, but not sure what the fuck to do with it these days. What would you do Gustav?

SHOW STUDIO AW 14 MILAN MENS PANEL

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014

Evening Style Fundamentalists. Here’s the ShowStudio Milan Menswear panel from yesterday that one sat on. For their version which is more defined than the smaller embedded guy below (click).

Smashing way to spend an hour, and man those Rocco chocolates were morish (click). Did 14 all told, on and off line. Dropped the Thom Sweeney Scabal wool hopsack three-piece in case things got a bit rowdy, as have heard that Stoppard ‘The Chair’ (click) can properly mix it when she wants to. Did fluff my publication intro’ under the glaring lights of the media pressure, again, but as it was turned out a double pleasant breeze to be involved. The panel introduce themselves far more efficiently, so I shant bore you with it in writing. Nick Knight’s bone China was a delight to drink out of too. Do hope to go back again if they invite.

SHOW STUDIO PANEL SITTER

Tuesday, January 28th, 2014

Morning Panel Beaters. Am sitting on the ShowStudio Milan menswear panel (click) later today, which streams live at 15.30 GMT. Am proud to have been asked. They’re prestigious style&fashion hotbeds, with big hitters usually involved. Milans been taking a bit of beating of recent, what with the LC:Ms success. Done a bit of revision, and for me Milan, bless it, was all about the prezzas*, not the runways. Hope saying this doesnt make me sound like a pillock. Couple of good/acceptable shows, but not many. Its all about touching cloth these days, si?

Milan by De Biasi from above, again.

One bit of culture/creativity Milan did deliver to me were some pictures by largely Milanese photographer Mario de Biasi. The invite from Boglilo was a striking aerial shot of Il Duomo from 1954, which I cant repeat today as so early, but is here (click). I absolutely love that shot. So very Milan, beautiful, yet quite unsettling in many ways. For me at least.

Five chairs in show/row.

What to say, what to wear, what to not say, what not to wear etc? Couple of HowToSpendIt clients are on the roster, so lets hope dont have a Network style meltdown. Can one take The Fifth during such a debate? Reckon ShowStudios/fashions super-erudite editor and host, Lou Stoppard, will almost certain be taking the fifth, big chair, as shes chairing, right? So, styling wise, as the background to the Show panel appears dark, am thinking something light and hairy should work nicely. Thats hat thinking signed off. Now shoes and hosiery might be trickier. Is it too brisk for Louis kittens and bare legs? Or something a little more Sylvianesque? With a bit of shine, see below? Woah. Mick’s oboe/bassoon thing, the neckwear, too, too good..

Meanwhile, while don’t normally do classical on Style&Error, get enough of that at home, but Chopin seems right, for some reason. Maybe its the chairs. Perhaps it channels correct seriousness. Or is it simply Show Panel suitable? Here’s Frédéric’s Prelude in E Minor. Seeing you at 3.30pm style bredrin’?

More de Biasi- Snow pattern.

NIGHT SPOT

Monday, January 27th, 2014

Morning Style Mentalisers. I was talking to Holden, in his dark melange sweat and his Wizards hat. You see when work was ended, went out to TheWrongWriter (click) he having made a prawn curry, which we ate and spoke of movies and verse. Then went to the Dagmar Wine Bar on Jubilee cross with Hackney Road. Walking there we spotted a chip shop/restaurant, formerly an estate boozer, now called ‘Clutch’ with most ridiculous hybrid giant deformed austerity light fittings I’ve ever seen. Clutch was thoroughly lit and thoroughly empty. He mentioned a pop-up archive he’d heard about and how ridiculous that was too. We walked and talked of the fashion and a life in its theatre, is certainly fraught with many spills and chills.

Burberry Summer Snood in polka dot silk cashmere is £395

This Burberry Summer Snood will keep the fashion chill out, maybe. Its a jolly colour and pattern, no? Not certain I fancy jolly right now, but it makes a pleasant shape. I spent 20 hours writing about these sort of guys this weekend before the curry outing. We both shared a piece of £9 cheese and spoke of our lives and our dreams. Then went home. Not got time to make sense of this now. Have found all manner of other special numbers too. Not gonna share now though. Going down the Lido, then to Sauvages on Great Eastern. Maybe. Then its back to the womb. Defo.

Burberry SS14. ‘Writers&Painters’ inspired by Hockney&Bennett.

Talking of banter, am feeling the way Lou talks about his pals in this track, am gonna build on it, but not got time now. Cant find a version can imbed that isnt a boring live one, that actually works, and or that isnt this one with tits and stuff in it. Not my choice. But it is yours if you watch it. Lou? Take it..

DO NOTHING

Saturday, January 25th, 2014

Afternoon Style Spankers. At desk grafting as per but cant help but tweet my ‘Dressed to Chill’ The Sharpener column (click) for FTHTSI with The Specials ‘Do Nothing’ attached. Possibly not exactly the message for brand  How To Spend It, but thats solitude for you. It makes no sense to follow fashion, but wickedly festive knitwear/check pant stance regardless.

Do nothing except work and smoke tiny cigars. Thats my useless tip. Christ. Love how Hall chews his gum instead of even pretending to lip synch. Great flatop/eyeliner combo. Have that Dalston. Nice one Terence. Take it away boys..
