WOLAND’S RETINUE/ LIDO DEMON STANCE

Monday, October 31st, 2011

If I was attending some sort of Halloween bash, which am not, and I had a few like-minded comrades, which I do not, I would consider Bulgakov’s novel The Master and Margerita for inspiration. More particularly the elegant Woland and members of his retinue: Woland himself turns up in various perfectly composed mono-colour ensembles with brilliant sounding accessorisation going on. The menacing Azazello magician/make-up pusher/assassin is often in imposing three piece pinstripe and bowler hat and with single protruding fang. Koroviev dresses in check tweed tailoring, Pince-Nez glasses and deerstalkeresque hat . Even Behemoth the massive out-of-order black cat, fond of vodka and pistols, would be excellent, and too Hella the naked, rotten/gangrenous and glamourous witch would make excellent reference points.

The novel is full of vivid description but still not set hard and fast, so would allow fantastically stylish interpretations for the present. It might not even have to function as ‘fancy’ dress or costume. Just a thought, unlikely to need it though. Am going swimming in open air. Gonna channel one/some of the above, perhaps even Woland himself. Got the right hat, just need Satanic goggles and am away.

Stubbs out, keeping it sinister at the Lido

BELA LUGOSI’S POORLY…

Monday, October 31st, 2011

…and Jimmy Saville’s outright dead. Yet what a high point for mediocrity the weekend proved to be? Maybe I was simply wrong place. Many ‘celebrated’ Halloween. I didn’t. Tonight however I shall mark the occasion. I am already in full black tracksuit¬†(Lacoste), cuffed/zip bottoms, no markings, in mourning for Saville, Tracksuit King. Later, I hope to extract a eulogy from my tracksuit and jewellery correspondent, Stretch.

Meanwhile, gonna devise suitably austere night of style & terror for myself to compensate weekends verve dearth. Silhouettes and so on to follow.

TAILORING SUMMIT TEA BREAK

Sunday, October 30th, 2011

This is the bay window at Baroness Mingay’s New Bond Street HQ. Luke and Thom from Thom Sweeney look very dark because of the light pouring in, but the shapes were too good not to take. Luke in dark, peaty brown wool three piece with signature horseshoe waistcoat, Thom in charcoal grey double breasted.

DO YOU KNOW THE WAY TO SAVILE ROW?

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

Tailoring summit at The Baroness’ HQ on New Bond yesterday. (Some of) London’s finest assembled to tweak and pin and thing. Spotted these two likely lads and wondered..

Will post some stills as they looked pretty elegant in action. Later went to Hardy Amies and picked self up a racy little blazer. Will somehow get an image. Meanwhile as alluded to, the Spencer Hart over coat been banging on about for a week is below.

Note Palm Springs wall is in the shop.

COLLAR BARRED

Friday, October 28th, 2011

So doing press days at moment, yeah, SS 2012 and that, right? Saw these and thought of you. Well, not you. Thought of Stretch the jewellery designer as it goes, but you might be interested as collar style is simply all anyone’s talking about this last couple of days.

They’re by Ambush (click), who’re all mates with BAPE and people, so is pukingly trendy, (in certain quarters). The web site doesnt show the jewellery in the most obvious manner, or perhaps at all, but is worth a visit for a bit of context. Look, here’s whole tray of the stuff.

This stuff is full on collar aggro bondage. Useful in certain scenarios, like subverting suit stances or looking mental on the 55. Less so in others.

Gotta dash.
