MR. HARE ‘ONYX’ LOAFERS

Went Mr. Hare (click) sample sale today, in search of fantastic footwear. Regrettably, I found it. Two-fold.

Onyx loafer in black leather. End of line at end of season. A must have loafer?

Brilliant looking loafer that wrote about in FT HTSI (click) . It’s inspired by the White Cube gallery in St. James (see Mr. Hare quote in piece). I bigged it up big time. Even quoted Gandhi in that article. Seemed very relevant. Doesn’t seem that Mahatma on a frugality level. They’re £150 from an original P of £440.

Onyx loafer in blue, yes blue, eel skin. Soon to be rare groove. Another must have?

Thing is, my policy on acquiring shoes when they are ‘right’ is go in hard. Should I put my money where my mouth is and get both, or is that a foot in mouth move?

Gonna sleep on it. In the morning it will be clear if is an hare and the eel scenario. Maybe.  Any suggestions welcome. And donations in fact.

TS in/out/not sure.

Eel, stingray, turtle, frog: all v v v hard to find. If you like these you gotta get the eel pair at very minimum. If you left them would there be deep pangs of regret and berating decision not to buy- course there would. Bite the bullet. Get ‘em. If you like an exotic skin- Zilli have a beautifully shaped full stingray lace up.

  2. Stubbs Says:

Nice on Pinner, thats what I like to wake up to. A call to alarming spending habits. Appreciated.
Frog. You’ve seen frog? Surely not.
Zilli are mental all round. Their shirts are £750 plus. My pal does the PR. They a strange luxury lot they are.

You know you want them, so don’t start blaming me. Yes frogskin shoes and accessories. Shop just closed on Wigmore Street/Duke St did them, also Cane toad. Back in the day Pinet used to do them.

  5. Vincent Ian Pinner Says:

Avi Rossini opp Pinet does a lot of exotic skins/ furs also

  6. Stubbs Says:

I know that shop in Wigmore. Its called “Elle” isnt it? My pal Stretch and I were laughing so much and pointing at the Jade green co-ordinated belt – shoe – bag combos they came out of the shop and told us to move on.
Little did they know we were laughing at the audacity and style in a positive way.
Meeting Stretch today to fit his wedding shirt. How time flys..
This post works doesnt it? am going to do more short sharpe current style question based posts. it engages I think.

Grab both pairs; I am still in mourning for a pair of high top Tods for Ferrari I left on a shelf in Amsterdam.

  11. Michael K Says:

Quelle coincidence. I nabbed the eel pair at the sample sale too. I was weighing up between the black Millers (sensible) and these (exciting). A truly beautiful shoe.

I was quite taken aback when this new last made its debut, but as time has passed by, they have grown on me. Such a shame I missed out on the Joplings. With a high buff military shine that toe could be a thing of beauty with the right trouser.

  12. Stubbs Says:

The right trouser. Now there’s a post.
Mr. Hare is properly the way forward for fancy shoe fanciers.

  13. Mr Hare Says:

Stubbs !! You’re breaking my heart. You are looking at two totally awesome shoes which normally wouldn’t leave you enough change out of a grand to feed yourself for a week, at only £300 and you got a call a special meeting of the UN. What are you? Swedish?
Just get yer fXXXXXg money out and come and get your shoes !!

btw The shoes in Elle are what I aspire to. xx

  14. Simone Says:

The porportione of the skin on vamp is not long enough. There is too much toe. I look these shoes they are not designed by trained cordwainer man or woman. They fashionable but no style. Berlutu and Cleverly George would not sell such sku.

  15. Simone Says:

They are shoes for english or third world style. Not italian or french man.

  16. Vincent Ian Pinner Says:

Second issue of Rake did an excellent piece on trouser fit.

  17. Stubbs Says:

Sparked interesting debate though, no? well worth the tariff along.
Put me down for all the colours in all of the sizes as they say..

  18. SB Says:

Mr Hare will probably end up giving you one of his beautiful shoe boxes containing a single borrowed “urban” flip flop if procrastination continues.

  19. style and terror Says:

Do you not think that toby is a bit too young for you ?

  20. style and terror Says:

To be his older friend i mean. Your about 10 years older than him at least

  21. Stubbs Says:

Actually, maybe you’ve got a point. We’ve been friends since he was 12 or 13, and he’s been looking out for me pretty much ever since, but now what with him getting married, and the baby, maybe a clean break is in order and we should call it a day. Can i ask you, do you only have friends from your year at school, and is this a good thing?

  22. Si Brown Says:

them onyx shoes have sparked a real diverse post, Stretch is your pal, thick or thin regardless of age, anyone who has a grenade as part of their personal crest is to be cherished.

  23. Vincent Ian Pinner Says:

CRe the last subject- 100% irrelevant to anyone else. Can we get back to purpose of blog which as we all know is to give Mr S banter over his style stances and Lanvin type posts!

  24. Vincent Ian Pinner Says:

When i say irrelevant i mean its TS’s business and he doesn’t have to justify to style and terror. Personally I would tell S&E to f off, but am being gentlemanly so will refrain from doing so.

  25. jaykay Says:

VIP…Pinner… Gentlemanly??,… Do you know what that means??… Telling S&E to F off shows that you are a little bit simple sir!
