MR.HARE AND HIS SHOES

Hare and four swans.

As ‘Shoe Month’, (it got upgraded), draws to a close I’d like to show you Mr.Hare (click) answering randomly conceived questions from me as I interview him for The Rake and The FT HTSI. Both interviews are mental. They really are. Love the elements Hare is putting into his work. It’s all been thought about and given considered edge, such as the collection images themselves.

Here’s the S&E version. Shorter, more direct and with worse spelling and grammar than HTSI. Mr. Hare’s only been going for four seasons, yet he’s taken a very distinct stance already. They’re very fanciable, ranging from refined lace ups to loafers with attitude. Hare describes his company as doing ‘Black shoes’, as in of the night.

Miller.

Marc Hare has no formal shoe training, but works with a last maker in Northampton who realises his creations, which he then has made in an Italian factory in Emperli that makes shoes for Gucci and Ferragamo.

Genet.

The names of his shoes come from musical and literary heroes. Hare is heavily influenced by Brit-subculture and his shoes are charged with attitude. Jamaican uncles with mad shoes and thrilling trips to Ravels with his mum are what stoked him up in the beginning. Now he fusing all sorts of stuff. Check this SS11 collection, ‘There ain’t no App for that!!’. Personal favourites are Millers, (toe cap Oxfords) and  the six tassel Genet loafer. The Onyx style are pretty off key affairs too.

Miller.

Gonna add to this, but properly flat out right now. Really flat.

PS. Mr.Hare’s logo is a hare and four swans, which said quick enough sounds like Air Force Ones, Marc’s favourite trainer. Told you all angles are covered.

    Mr Stubbs – any chance you can post the videos without background music? It does indeed add a nice ambience but makes it difficult to hear what Mr. Hare and other interviewees are saying.

    Tom, I was going to suggest you start trawling the Trojan box sets for upcoming stances, the tunes do indeed add a certain gravitas!

    I did enjoy Ravel’s back in the Seventies and Eighties on my frequent shopping trips to Bristol Broadmead!

    I seem to remember you considering them as somewhat avant garde Mother. My first loafer was from Ravel’s, 1982, I’m certain you were present too, and no doubt paid for them. So the legacy began. Much obliged for both comment and the loafers. TS.
